Relocating to Australia – Electrical Goods

“Can I bring my electrical appliances?”

It is possible to bring with you from home electrical goods for use in Australia. We recommend bringing only the smaller and more portable appliances like blenders or hair dryers.   It is not costly to replace these items individually.

You may require either a conversion plug or a transformer / voltage convertor depending on your country of origin.

Below is a link to some more information on countries of origin and our electrical circuits and plugs:

“If I rent or buy a home what appliances will be included?”

If you are renting when you arrive in Australia you will likely find that the home has a dishwasher installed and supplied, as well as a cook top and oven, and in 9/10 homes you will need to provide your own refrigerator, washing machine and/ or clothes dryer. These appliances can be rented, however if your stay is longer than 18 months it will be more cost effective to purchase outright. At the Kathryn Hall Agency, we can assist you with suggestions on where to shop for white goods. We know all the best places – the seconds warehouses, the prestige showrooms and the deliver same day stores.

If you are purchasing a home the dishwasher, oven and cooktop will be considered a fixed appliance and will be included, although some owners exclude the dishwasher from the sale – this will be specified on the contract of sale. Very rarely are other appliances included unless they are built in.

It is helpful for some families to factor in the cost of the major white good appliances into the first two years of rent. We can provide approximate pricing upon request or online stores to browse for budgeting.
