Swimming pool for toddlers

Which swimming pool do you go with your toddler?
It’s nearly June and it’s getting a little too cold to take your toddlers to the beach for water play. I will tell you my favourite indoor swimming pool that I love taking my 3 year old to. Because this one in Maroubra, you don’t have to get wet if you don’t want to!
Don’t get me wrong, most Sydney swimming pools are kids friendly. Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre near Chinatown or Cook + Phillip near Hyde Park, for example, both very popular with kids. But in my opinion, the new Des Renford Leisure Centre in Maroubra deserves a special mention, particularly good for 3-4 years old. 
It is 70cm deep and quite small so the Centre lets you watch over your kids from the pool side, not in the water with them if you are comfortable. If you don’t feel like going in, this is great as I know some other pools have an ‘arm’s length’ policy. Of course you would need to be ready to save your kids in case of emergency. The kids pool is also a little bit warmer too so that is nice for little ones.
I also love the fact that they have a crèche. You will need to fill in a form and book a day in advance. It is only $3.60/hr too, which is very reasonable. You can swim in an adult pool or might want to take a class at the gym.
The nice lady at the crèche told me that you don’t need to exercise if you don’t want to, you can just enjoy a cup of coffee in the café too which sounds dangerously tempting. They take babies from 8 weeks so if you are in need of ‘me’ time, what about a little work out?
I also take my kid’s scooter whenever I come to this pool. There is a big open park kids can ride scooter around right next to this Centre and my boys love it.

幼児とプールへ行くなら
もうすぐ６月。海に囲まれているシドニーだけれど、幼児と水遊びをするには、ビーチはもう寒すぎる。今回は幼児と行けるプールをご紹介します。
シドニーの屋内プールは中華街近くの Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre （イアン・ソープ・アクアティックセンター）にしてもハイドパーク向かいの Cook + Phillip にしても幼児向けのプールはあるので、基本的にどこでも楽しめます。その中でもMaroubra（マルーブラ）にある Des Renford Leisure Centre（デズ・レンフォード・レジャーセンター）は、新しく施設もきれいなだけでなく、３歳くらいの幼児なら、親が水に入らなくても大丈夫なので利用しやすい。幼児用プールは水深70cm、小さめだから安心。それに温かいプールに慣れた日本人にはたいてい冷たく感じるシドニーのプールでは珍しく水温が高め。温室のような造りで、冬でも太陽の光で中はホカホカ。
ここでもう一つ嬉しいサービスは、託児所（英語ではクレイシェ）。
自分も泳いだりジムに行きたいと思ったら、子供を預けて最長２時間まで運動できます。その時は幼児プールではなく、大人用のプールへ。運動せずに、施設内のカフェでホッとする、なんていう使い方もアリです（これは託児所のオネエさんからのお言葉！）。８週間の赤ちゃんから預かってくれるし、１時間$3.60という料金もありがたい。利用するには申込書を提出し、前日までに予約が必要なので、一度子供をプールに連れて行って、託児所を見学しがてら次回に備えて申込書をもらってくるといいかもしれません。
ちなみに私はデズ・レンフォード・レジャーセンターに行く際は、スクーターを持っていきます。水遊びの後、隣の広々とした公園でスクーターを乗り回すのも子供の楽しみになっています。
