What is the biggest fear when choosing an Agent?

This was a question that was asked of me over the weekend and I have to say I really had to think about it.

What are the fears and major concerns of someone ready to place their home on the market? How do they select an agent?

I admit I was stumped. Why? Is it complacency? Or is it the fact the as an agent I am selling property, talking property, I walk property, I design property, I style property, I market and advertise property, I listen to property, dream of property, eating and sleeping property 7 days a week 24 hours a day. Is this why I can’t answer?

Could it be that I assume that every one else eats, sleeps and talks property? I don’t think so. I actually am acutely aware that my role as a real estate agent is being all of the above things I have just described because real estate is one of the most complex processes of all life’s experience and can be the most stressful.

Being a real estate agent is more than just a 9 to 5 job and its is more than 5 days a week. But I love selling property, I love talking property, I love listening about property and I love learning about property. Helping buyer and matching buyers to property is what I love doing.

So here is the list of the fears our owners offered:

  • No local knowledge
  • A non caring agent
  • An agent with very little experience
  • An agent with poor negotiation skills
  • An agent with no marketing expertise
  • An agent who does not communicate
  • An agent with poor attention to detail
  • An agent too busy
  • An agent who does not honour and respect
  • Lack of commitment.
  • Lack of perspective
